Alex Skolnick Trio "Veritas"

With the closing of 2011 coming just around the corner (and with my inability to find an actual review) I decided it would be a great idea for my first blog to be a review for Alex Skolnick Trio's (or AST) latest album Veritas.  Now this album is quite the change from their previous 2 albums ("Last Day In Paradise" and "Transformation") and a huge change from their debut album "Goodbye To Romance: Standards For A New Generation" as this album consists of almost entirely original material (save the one cover of Metallica's hit "Fade To Black") and I am glad to say that Alex is a fantastic Jazz composer, each song will take you on an emotional roller coaster like no other. From the Psychedelic/Middle Eastern-esc intro track "Panna" to the "cruisin'" track "Song Of The Open Road." To the lyrical ballad (and title track) "Veritas" to the funky Prince-esc "99-09" this album is loaded with fun, and nice easy listening, stuff to relax too, rock out too, to make sweet love too baby, "Veritas" has it all. Whether you're a hardcore Jazz-head (like myself) a Testament/Skolnick fan eager to listen to 'Lex and his solo stuff (also like myself) this album has got your name written all over it.
